Kamensa, Fahmida A. 08/30/ BSN 1E Why is it important to study history? ● According to Peter N. Stearns, history is important because it helps us in different ways. First, History helps us understand people and society and history helps us understand change and how the society we live in came to be, which means that studying history can help us understand our people and our society. History is data that contains all the happenings in our past, including the changes in our society. If we don’t know the behavior of our previous people and society how can we know if we as a people behaved? It helps us understand how our society functions. By studying our past, we can figure out how our society made several disciplines that attempt to understand society. This is also one of the reasons why we can learn how our society Came to be. Without learning about history, we have no idea about our past which ultimately means that without our past, the origin of our society will become a mystery. Second, history contributes to our own lives, and our moral understanding, and provides identity. Learning history is not only important in our society but is also important in our own lives. It creates another perspective on human life. Learning about the lives of the past or the “pastness of a past” gives us excitement and thrill and ultimately, it can also allow us to learn from it. Because history talks about the lives of distant ages, it also talks about their hardships in life and how they handled them. This challenges our moral sense, and this helps us hone it through the difficulties faced by another individual. Historians made history that helps us build our courage and strength and provides lessons in our lives. In terms of identity, history does not only talk about the history of the society and people, but it also talks about the history of our family, This data from the past provides knowledge on how our families and group became united, including our ethnicity, by learning how our families began, this helps us in learning about our identity.
Which of these reasons do you think are the most convincing? ● One of the things that I feel is the most convincing is that history contributes to our moral understanding. Our moral understanding is built through the experiences of every individual and eventually passed down to us, in my opinion, without history we will only learn a little about our moral sense and we can't prove it without trying it ourselves, because difficult settings stir our moral senses, and learning history helps us hone it, reading complex lives of our ancestors gives us courage and strength, it also gives us the lessons we needed to continue with our lives, without history we will go on with our lives with a fear of what we will face, history teaches us a lot, it helps us in conquering our bumpy ride through our life. How would history be relevant to your course? ● Nursing is one of the most important courses, it helps human development to continue growing and thriving. Learning the history of our course helps us better understand how our course came to be and the reasons why our course came to life. Learning history helps us nursing students in thoroughly caring for our patients, it can also be our driving force because history also provides us with the knowledge of how the first nurses of our world sacrificed a lot just to care for people. In the history of the Philippines, many women provided nursing care day and night to provide nursing care to soldiers, they also sacrificed their homes to be the headquarters of men who were injured from war, At that time Nursing was dominated by women, and men were discriminated against. By learning history, we can identify the people who made our course normal to men. This helps us thoroughly learn our course and learn the techniques of the past in terms of nursing care and how we do it in the present. Previous incentives also help build present machines that were made, which makes it a guide for us. Learning history is very relevant when taking the course of nursing.
