Procedures for Drafting the Front and Back Bodice, Summaries of Economics

Detailed step-by-step instructions for drafting the front and back bodice patterns. It covers key measurements and construction lines, as well as the specific steps for creating the armhole curve, darts, and other essential elements of the bodice design. The procedures outlined in this document are crucial for anyone learning pattern drafting or garment construction, as the bodice is a fundamental component of many clothing items. The comprehensive nature of the instructions, along with the clear illustrations and measurements, make this document a valuable resource for fashion design students, aspiring pattern makers, and even experienced sewers looking to refine their techniques.

Task Sheet # ___________
Procedures in making the Front Bodice:
1. Draw a construction line AB is equal to the FBL (full bodice length) measurement.
2. Starting from point B, on line AB layout the CBL (center bodice length) and mark as point C.
3. From point A, draw a perpendicular line equal to ¼ of the bust measurement plus ½ “. Mark the

Mark the end of the line as point D.

4. Starting from point A, on line AD measure a line equal to ½ ‘’ of SHOULDER POINT WIDTH. Mark **it as point E.

  1. Starting from point E, on line AE measure ¾ ‘’ inward. Mark it as point F.
  2. Draw down perpendicular.**
  1. From point B, draw a perpendicular line equal to ¼ of waist measurement plus 1” for the dart. Mark as point J.
  2. From point J layout the Side Bodice Length (SBL) measurement intersecting line D. Mark it as point K. Connect points J and K using a hip curve.
  3. Draw a curve line connecting points I to K using the french curve. This will help the armhole curve GIK.
  1. From point A, on line AB, mark a distance equal to the Shoulder Blade Height (SBH). Mark the point as L.
  2. From point L, draw a perpendicular line equal to ½ of Shoulder Blades Distance (SBD). Mark it as point M.
  3. From point M, draw down perpendicular line intersecting line BJ. Mark it as point N.

Task Sheet # ___________

Procedures in making the Back Bodice:

  1. Draw a construction line AB which is equal to the FBL measurement. `2. Starting from point A, lower ¾ “and mark as point C.
  2. From point A, draw a perpendicular line equal to ¼ of the bust measurement. Mark the end of the line as point D.

3.Starting from point A, on line AD measure a line equal to ½ of Shoulder Point Width (SPW). Mark it as point E.

  1. Starting from point E, on line AE measure ¾ inward. Mark as point F.
  2. Draw down perpendicular lines from points F, E and D respectively.
  1. From point B, draw a perpendicular line equal to ¼ of waist measurement plus 1” for the dart. Mark as point J.
  2. From point J layout the Side Bodice Length (SBL) measurement intersecting line D. Mark it as point K. Connect points JK using a hip curve.
  3. Draw a curve line connecting points I to K using the french curve. This will help the armhole curve GIK.
  1. From point A, on line AB, mark a distance equal to the Shoulder Blade Height (SBH). Mark the point as L.
  2. From point L, draw a perpendicular line equal to ½: of Shoulder BALADES Distance (SBD). Mark it as point M.
  3. From point M, draw down perpendicular line intersecting line BJ. Mark it as point N
