In this activity, you are tasked to interview one teacher of your institution or from
other institutions. Use the following as your guide.

1. What is your definition of
assessment as learning?
Assessment as Learning is the use of on-going self-
assessment by students in order to monitor their own
learning, which is “characterized by students
reflecting on their own learning and making
adjustments so that they achieve deeper
understanding.
2. What common
techniques are you utilizing
in the classroom setting
incorporating assessment
as learning?
Think-pair-share can be a great technique for
facilitating discussion. It is a quick and simple
technique to adopt. Faculty present a question or
challenge, students reflect quietly and then partner
with someone to discuss. A think-pair-share session
could be 5 to 15 minutes.
3. How important is self-
monitoring in
assessment?
Self-monitoring provides more immediate
feedback to students than is possible when
teachers evaluate the behaviour.
The strategy clearly depicts improvement over
time in behaviour for both the student and the
teacher.
The self-monitoring process engages students.

  1. From the interview, what have you learned about assessment as learning? Assessment is determines whether or not the goals of education are being met. Assessment affects decisions about grades, placement, advancement, instructional needs, curriculum, and, in some cases, funding.
  2. How did the teacher conduct assessment as Project WRITE XI: Assessment of Learning 1 - Course pack 47 learning in his /her class? Do you think it is effective or not? Yes, It is effective because students have an opportunity to reflect on and demonstrate their thinking. By trying to identify their sources of evidence, the teacher better understands where their difficulties arise and can alter their teaching accordingly and lead the students toward better understanding of the concept.
  3. In the future, what are the techniques that you will use based on the interview? Why? I will use creativity, Innovative and Challenge because in the future students are more active in technology. This 3 is the key to engaging students. Games, audio-visual materials, real world learning, brainstorming creative and innovative ideas, team challenges, choice of activity, taking the lesson out the classroom.
  4. What can you conclude from the activity? Students learn differently, so need to use different techniques that will help them to understand. And Assessment is an integrated process of gaining information about student’s learning and making value judgments about their progress.
