The classical management theory stresses more on the organization instead of the workforce. The theory considers the workforce as an integral part of a machine, the machine being the organisation (https://businessjargons.com/classical-theory/,no date). The aim of this essay is to assess this theory, its impacts and relevance in organisations today. I have identified that the theory is still in application in the production and manufacturing sectors amongst others. This is because the theory majorly concentrates on efficiency of the work processes. In a bakery, which is in the manufacturing industry the key is to efficiently and effectively produce, pack and deliver fresh bread to its wide range of customers situated all over the country. Most importantly to consistently ensure high- quality standards of its products in the different branches. According to Zairab, Muhammad, and Zahid (2012, p.521) “Classical theories enhance the management abilities to predict and control the behaviour of the workers”. For this particular reason and those stated below the theory is still in use to date by organisations. The salient features identified by Weber, Taylor and Fayol are consistently being utilized. They identified that organizations want a clear chain of command, division of labour, authority, unity of command, unity of direction, centralization, remuneration, equity, order, stability of tenure of personnel (Topic1- Overview, 2017; Organizational Communication Chanel, 2017). Some of these practices may not suite the workplace but because most organizations are profit-oriented, they will continue applying them to ensure there is maximum use of the resources available, which includes the employees of the organization.
