How to Study?
Reminders while studying in Med School!
1. Translate the materials into you own words!
2. Review over and over again!
3. Don’t underestimate your study materials. You have to understand them and not just to memorize!
4. Take down your own notes! (Again, translate them into your own words)
5. Concept building is the key to learning.
6. Don’t start to review the material on the day before the test. (Your astral body needs to rest!)
Study Methods
1. Preview a lecture day before.
1.a. Method I: 8 Sentence Process-Oriented Method
1.i. Write 8 general sentences (points) explaining the lecture (like a process).
1.ii. Leave plenty of spaces between each question (needed to be filled later).
1.iii. There is no need to study the lecture, but to create a guide of the lecture.
1.b.Method II: 8 Sentence Question-Oriented Method
1.iv. Write 8 general questions that you have about the lecture.
1.v. Leave plenty of spaces between each question.
1.vi. The goal is to come back and fill in the answers under those questions.
(Again, be aware that the main point of this is to create a roadmap in your head).
2. Actual Lecture
a. Derivation I
a.i. You need to bring your 8 or 10 sentence list to class.
a.ii. As the professor lectures, check each point that you feel the professor has
covered as the professor lectures over it.
a.iii. Take notes on the other sheet of paper.
a.iv. Whenever the professor has not touched something, put a question mark
by it.
b. Derivation 2
a.v. Ask the professor
a.vi. If you still can’t understand, pull a book!
c. Derivation 3 (optional)
a.vii. Take 10-15 minutes to re-read the material. (This increases
comprehension!)
3. Covering the Material
1.c. Make notes out of your own words (clear and concise).
1.d.Create your own diagrams and drawings (like you really need to draw).
1.vii. Learn how to associate things (make relationships, not just making
mnemonics).
1.viii. Create as much as 5 diagrams in each lecture.
4. Review Phase (Review should be done OVER TIME, not just in one day).
1.e. Review 1
