  • its population is more than 110 million
  • the country is an archipelago that consists of more than 7,000 islands
  • the types of media produced are movies, TV, music, and social media

Media Culture Movies

  • The Philippines produces genres such as action, romance, comedy, fantasy, and the like.
  • Older movies depicted the average Filipino in poverty. Nowadays, the majority of movies are portrayed as middle class

Media Culture Television

- The most popular shows on televison are usually game shows, and dramas such as soap operas

  • Over the past several years, they have also adopted reality shows, and put their own spin on it such as Pinoy Big Brothers, and the like
  • 52% of the Filipinos have a computer with high speed Internet connection at home
  • 74% of 15 - 17 years identify Internet cafes as their main point of Internet access.

What makes the culture unique?

  • Philippines was colonized by the Spanish and then Americans consecutively
  • Despite being influenced by foreign invaders, Philippines still manages to keep its own identity
  • The media produced, even while taking queus from other foreign media, is still very distinctive and unique on its own
