Draw-A-Person Test (DAP) February 1, 2019
Ms. Arcilla was asked to draw a human figure for the Draw-A-Person Test (DAP). She
put forth much effort on the drawing despite appearing apprehensive about it at first. Upon being
given the instructions, she exclaimed “I always draw her, I don’t know why.”. In the span of ten
minutes, she drew a cartoonish female of symmetrical proportions, older than her age, starting
from the head down to the feet. Results from the DAP suggest that Ms. Arcilla posses a normal
degree of control and rigidity over her life. She is open-minded when it comes to suggestions on
how to live one’s life, especially if they come from authoritative figures, but maintains autonomy
over her choices and decisions. Symbolisms of narcissistic tendencies were present in her
drawing, suggesting that her priorities revolve around her needs. To start the day in the right
direction, Ms. Arcilla gives importance to self-care activities such as exercise, eating right,
listening to motivational talks, and meditation. It is important for her to be able to feel confident
about herself before dealing with other people. When given an option, Ms. Arcilla prefers to
exercise her independence rather than ask for help from the opposite gender. She may have
concerns over male sexuality but remains sensitive to them. Furthermore, Ms. Arcilla possesses
an active fantasy with no signs of primitive aggression. Her fantasies or daydreams typically
revolve around positive ideas of her future as she imagines herself living a peaceful and
successful life. However, she may be unwilling to deal with certain situations at times because of
fears of punishment and feelings of inadequacy. This is particularly evident in her work life, as
she struggles to step up and share her unique ideas with her bosses in fear of being rejected or
humiliated.
