At least thousands of seedlings of “lambago” trees have been planted on October 1, by different schools in the city of Cagayan de Oro, as a symbol for their commitment in the protection of the environment. The event was led by the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro), as it celebrated its 19th anniversary. The Mangrove trees were planted at the coastline of Cagayan de Oro river fronting Duaw Park, beside the City Hall. The head of the Clenro, Mr. Reyes, said that the seedlings being planted by the students were donated by Department of Environment and Natural Resources. “When students plant trees, they can see for themselves the structure of trees, learn what they need and how they grow,” he said.

It is very important to have the students to plant trees especially in the city of Cagayan de Oro. This will help the students to know the correct planting process. It will also help them to discuss the benefits and the process of plating trees in their classes. Students become aware that they can play a role in protecting the environment through their personal involvement. Ultimately, it is hoped that the experienced will help them make intelligent decisions about conversation and use of our valuable natural resources.
