ANALYSIS OF THE K to 12 CURRICULUM GUIDE PHYSICAL EDUCATION The Curriculum guide on Physical Education shows the different standards it focuses from Grades 1 to 10. These are all mainly related to the active participation of students when it comes to physical activities and their understanding on the different movement concepts, principles, and strategies. The scope and sequence for Grades 1 to 3 activities are integrative and inclusive in context while Grades 4 to 6 focuses on health and skill enhancing activities which ensures that they are integrative an inclusive in context. When it comes to the junior high students from Grades 7 to 10, their scope and sequence are thematically organized which ensure that they are also integrative and inclusive in context. As for the Grades 11 to 12, students can select from the given menu of the physical activity courses. The analysis of this curriculum guide was based on the following: (1) the Cognitive Development; (2) Information Processing; and (3) Behaviorism/Social Learning. From a cognitive development perspective, the whole curriculum is appropriate because given the known cognitive capacities of children, the scope and sequence are according to their age. For example, the health optimizing physical education for Grades 11 and 12 are appropriate since according to their age, these are just suited for their cognitive development. According to the Piagetian theory of cognitive development, children move through four different stages of mental development. This theory focuses not only on the understanding of how children acquire knowledge, but also on understanding the nature of intelligence. Thus, the scope differences from Grades 1 to 10 are just right for different ages steps into different stage of development. Information processing is also an important factor to analyze the given guide for it talks about the movement of information. The content of the lessons from Grades 1 to 10 are just right for it shows that there is a cognitive process which encourage every student to a deep understanding. The content is just enough for the information to be successfully encoded to their minds. It is a good idea that all of the sensory, working, and long-term memory will be used by the children through the different given lessons and activities. Lastly, it is also important that there is a social learning. This is essential especially when it comes to Physical Education. After scanning the content of the curriculum guide, there is a given activities that can help aid the student’s behaviorism and social learning especially when it comes to group activities, these are effective. All in all, the whole guide shows an excellent scope and sequences which are just suited from Grades 1 to 10.
